Lane County is named for Oregon's first territorial governor, Joseph Lane. However, the county was the home of the Kalapuya people for 16,000 years. Should Lane County's name be changed to Kalapuya County? Are there other ways to honor the indigenous people of this area?
Speakers include Dr. Douglas Card, retired University of Oregon sociology professor; Dr. David Lewis, Oregon State University ethnohistorian/professor, Kalapuyan descendant and member of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde; and Dr. Richard Pettigrew, archeologist and director of the Archeological Legacy Institute.
